Job Description

The Commissioning Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and management of commissioning activities for large-scale Oil & Gas projects. The role demands a deep understanding of technical processes, exceptional project management skills, and the ability to coordinate across multiple disciplines to ensure that systems are designed, installed, tested, and operate according to the project’s design specifications.

 

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive commissioning plans and schedules, considering project requirements, objectives, and available resources.
  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to establish realistic milestones and deadlines for commissioning completion.
  • Schedule and lead startup, testing, and commissioning planning meetings.
  • Continuously monitor commissioning progress, identifying potential delays, and implementing corrective measures to maintain project timeline.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and create risk mitigation strategies to minimize commissioning disruptions.
  • Utilize project management tools and software to oversee commissioning schedules, quality checks, and resource allocation; Ensuring all testing equipment is in proper working order and has been calibrated to appropriate standards
  • Assist with coordinating manufacturers' services and their certification of proper installation and/or operation of equipment as required.
  • Coordinate with industry and project teams, contractors, and suppliers to ensure timely and efficient commissioning processes.
  • Optimize resource allocation and manpower utilization to enhance project efficiency.
  • Provide regular updates to stakeholders, keeping them informed of commissioning progress and any deviations from the plan.
  • Ensure compliance with oil and gas industry safety regulations and quality standards throughout the commissioning process.
  • Maintain detailed commissioning documentation, including plans, schedules, and progress reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related from an accredited college or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum ten (10) years industry specific experience in commissioning or project management.
  • Previous experience in overseeing large-scale energy or industrial projects, from construction through to commissioning.
  • Strong working knowledge of process technology and technical principles related to the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Previous experience supporting North Slope projects in similar role.
  • Experience with industry standards, including IEEE, NFPA, or ASME codes.

 

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management and client.

                                 

Mathematical Skills:

Comprehend and apply principles of calculus, modern algebra and statistical theory.  Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations and proofs and theorems.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to work projects.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with non-verbal symbols (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in the most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

 

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of managers, clients or employees of organization.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, proportions, and percentages.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of industry specific commissioning software, MS Word, word processing software, and MS Excel spreadsheet software.

This is a remote position located on the North Slope in Alaska. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and extreme cold temperatures while working in the field.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, although fieldwork is sometimes moderately noisy.
